Five Minute Friday (World): “The World Inside Me”

Five-Minute-Friday-4-300x300-2My first five-minute-Friday free write. I tapped away what popped into my head, no editing, no revising. Something is better than nothing, right?

I live in an outer world
Where grass and sand and sea reside
Trees and mountains and hillsides

A world resides inside of me
One that others cannot see
It holds hate and love
And God above
He is the only one who can see me in all my impurity
And still love me

This crazy world inside my head
The voices speak to me
They are more full of condescending negativity
Than positive happy-go-lucky
They are telling me even as I write this
That my words suck
That free-writes can be wrong if they’re written by me

I will never be a special somebody
I am merely imperfect me

Then God’s voice swoops in and says:
“I’ve made you
You are not perfect
But I see inside your perfection
In your imperfections
And that pleases me.”

God created the world around me
The singing birds and scented flowers
The fresh grass and cloudy towers
He made it perfect even if not always so
He made it what it needed to be
And that is the same way he made me

  1. hi lynn, i tho’t i wrote last nite, but i guess i didn’t. i enjoyed your poetry. i’m your next door neighbor at FMF:) i can identify with that negative voice in my head vs. GOD’s voice that encourages and gives hope.

  2. I love the way you wrote about the world inside of you. I think so many of us can relate to this world with thoughts of hate, love, negativity, etc. Our self-talk can be such a battle. Thank you for sharing, Lynn.
