Here is a list of writing resources I’ve found indispensable.
Scribophile: An online critique community, they offer writing contests, groups and forums by genre, publishing advice, and, most importantly, a dedicated community of critiquers! I cannot say enough good things about this resource and even wrote a blog post about it, Writing Communities – Scribophile.
Writers Digest: I think this one needs no further information.
Jessica Morrell: A great resource, Jessica’s website features writing prompts and exercises, writing techniques, and other tips all with a side of snarky humor.
Evolved Publishing: An indie publishing company, they are focused on quality and not quantity. This is evidenced by a page devoted to writing resources. My favorite topics are the Show, Don’t Tell series, Dialogue Tags vs. Action Leads/Inserts and Do You Filter Your Fiction?
Jane Friedman: A former publisher for Writer’s Digest, she offers lots of information about the publishing industry and how it’s changing, in addition to writing resources. I love her page not only for its information, but because she responds in a timely manner to questions and comments.
More resources coming soon.
I’d love to learn about webpages or books you’ve found helpful.
